Description: Letter from Thomas A.E. Tuten to Clarisa, his sister, written from Fort Fisher during the blockade of the Confederate fort by Union ships. Tuten notes the number and type of Union ships outside the fort and the number of Union soldiers ready to attack the fort. Tuten also asks for news from home, describes his current health, and tells of the deaths of fellow soldiers. Alred Campaign of Goose Creek, Beaufort County, N.C. was one of the men who died and was crushed when the lighthouse he was working on fell. Thad B. Latham is another soldier who is mentioned by Tuten and who died at Camp Wyatt on January 28th, 1863. Tuten requests that his sister ask G.G. Arthur, Mr. and Mrs. Michael Arthur, and Harvey G. Guilbert all to write him.
