Description: Charles A. Spencer was the first achromatic microscope maker in the United States. He was succeeded by his son Herbert. In 1895 Herbert was the founder of the Spencer Lens Company. This model is illustrated in the 1896 catalog. The 30mm tube and eyepiece were intended for use in photomicrography, providing a wide low power field. Spencer Lens Company soon became one of the two dominant American microscope manufacturers.
