Binocular bar Limb Microscope
Title: Binocular bar Limb Microscope
Identifier: LL02.48.02.16   (https://digital.lib.ecu.edu/22089)
Description: This is a relatively early Ross stand. The mechanical stage mechanism is shown on the instrument that is the frontispiece in the 1848 edition of Quekett's "A Practical Treatise on the Use of the Microscope". An identical stage is seen on other early instruments including No 110, sold by Bonham's and No. 190. The limb and binocular were changed at the factory to provide an RMS objective thread and the binocular tube designed by Francis Wenham for Ross in 1861. Other examples of period modified instruments can be seen in the Royal Microscopal Society collection numbers 174 and 175. The objective shown is a Smith, Beck and Beck from 1865. This microscope was modified after 1861. The serial number is 201.
