Description: Hartnack was the nephew of Oberhaeuser, who became his partner and then successor. He continued the tradition of making the finest optics. Rudolf Virchow, the founder of surgical pathology, traveled with his wife to Paris in 1858 to buy this model microscope. He used it for the remainder of his career. Virchow's microscope is now in the Charite Hospital Museum in Berlin. The serial number is 3902.
