Description: This type of portable, box mounted simple microscope that uses one to three lenses was commonly used in the field to examine insects, plants and aquatic life. Charles Darwin carried a similar one on his voyages and used it for his studies of barnacles. This one has a live box for examining small animals and aquatic life. This microscope was manufactured in the first half of the 19th century.
