Description: Specialized instruments designed for polarizing microscopy of minerals (petrographic) were introduced in Germany in the 1870's. This microscope has Ahrens prisms, rather than the more common Nicol prisms. The centerable rotating stage is equipped with a special mechanical stage. These microscopes are used for the identification of minerals and evaluation of crystalline materials. The serial number is 139993.
