Description: William S. W. Ruschenberger served in the United States Medical Corps from 1826 until 1869. Topics of his 1848 journal, during which time he was fleet surgeon on the USS PLYMOUTH for the East India Squadron, include a flogging, a court-martial, and a recipe for mosquito repellent. Dates of entries range from February 18, 1848 to March 6, 1849. In addition to this journal, Ruschenberger wrote several books, including A Voyage Round the World (1838) and Elements of Natural History (1850).
