Title: Erysipelas
Identifier: LL02.49.00.30   (https://digital.lib.ecu.edu/21136)
Description: Dermatologic stereoview card. Front of card depicts a man with Erysipelas on his face. The reverse of the card describes the dermatologic conditions as well as the diagnosis and treatment. Erysipelas is an acute infectious and contagious dermatitis characterized by shining redness, swelling, pain and caused by Streptococcus pyogenes. The organism gains enterance through some breach in the skin, which, however, may be so small as sometimes to escape detection. The appearance of the rash is preceded for about a day by malaise, headache, anorexia and fever. The lesion is hot and tender and causes throbing pain, tingling, burning or mild pruritus.
