Eczema Orbicular Oris
Title: Eczema Orbicular Oris
Identifier: LL02.49.00.21   (https://digital.lib.ecu.edu/21127)
Description: Dermatologic stereoview card. Front of card depicts two views of a young male child’s face and neck. The child has medium brown hair and brown eyes. He is wearing a medium white shirt , gray suit, green tie with a silver tie tack. The child’s face is covered around the mouth region with Eczema Orbicular Oris. The reverse of the card describes the dermatologic conditions as well as the diagnosis and treatment. Eczema located upon the lips or the border of any mucous orifice of the body is nearly always caused, aggravated or prolonged by some escaping secretion. Eczema of the lips may be caused also by use of strongly aromatic mouth washes or tooth pastes, or by tobacco, and it may be protracted to some extent by the movement of the lips in laughing, talking and eating, but in most instances the pertinacity of the condition is due to the habit of frequently moistening the lips with the tongue. If the habit of moistening the lips can be broken the condition usually responds readily to treatment of zinc paste, or Ceratum camphorae compositum N.F.; benzoin forms a waterproof coating over the affected area.
