Dermatitis Blastomycotica
Title: Dermatitis Blastomycotica
Identifier: LL02.49.00.09   (https://digital.lib.ecu.edu/21115)
Description: Dermatologic stereoview card. Front of card depicts a male hand from above the wrist to the fingers and thumb with Dermatitis Blastomycotica. The reverse of the card describes the dermatologic conditions as well as the diagnosis and treatment. The lesions begin as pimple or boil like papules, which spread peripherally and coalesce to form dusky-red patches. Many of the patients died from a systemic blastomycosis. Clinically the disease bears a very close resemblance to tuberculosis verrucosa cutis. Only the microscopic examination of the pus from the abscesses differentiated the two. Condition was treated by excising the areas, administration of potassium iodid combined with X-rays. Dermatitis Blastomycotica may also be known as Blastomycosis, Saccharomycosis hominis, or Blastomycetic dermatitis.
