Prof. Horsford's Acid Phosphate
Title: Prof. Horsford's Acid Phosphate
Identifier: LL02.12.01.71.04   (https://digital.lib.ecu.edu/20697)
Description: The front of this card depicts a little girl, wearing a dress with tiny ruffles on the sleeve and neckline, gazing out at you while holding a pocket watch to her ear. The caption reads at the top of the card "Prof. Horsford's Acid Phosphate", while down at the bottom it reads "Hear it tick, Makes a Delicious Drink With Water and Sugar Only. The reverse of the card states "Horsford's Acid Phosphate (liquid) prepared according to the direction of Professor E.N. Horsford, Cambridge, USA. Especially recommended for Dyspepsia, Indigestion, Weakened Energy, Mental and Physical Exhaustion, Wakefulness, Nervousness, etc. It is not a compounded patent medicine, but a preparation of the phosphates of Potash, Iron, Lime, etc. in solution, recommended and prescribed by physicians of all schools. The value of the phosphates in food and medicine is recognized by all medical authorities, and this preparation meets the general want better than any heretofore offered. Every medical and physical exertion induces an augmented waste of the phosphates. The Acid Phosphates supplies that waste, and imparts new energy to the system."
