Nursing cape
Title: Nursing cape
Identifier: Country Doctor Museum   (https://digital.lib.ecu.edu/14370)
Description: Nurses today usually wear scrubs to work. Just fifty years ago, however, this was not the case. Julie Faircloth Wells graduated from the Wilson School of Nursing in 1969 but instead of wearing scrubs and a lab coat, she wore a skirted uniform and a cape. Nursing capes were a popular part of the nurse’s uniform during the middle 20th century. This particular cape is made of wool and has the abbreviation “W.S.N.”, for Wilson School of Nursing, embroidered on its collar. Capes like this were worn over the rest of the nurse’s uniform for warmth.
