Title: Certificate
Identifier: Country Doctor Museum   (https://digital.lib.ecu.edu/14346)
Description: Certificates proving that a doctor or nurse graduated from college or took special training courses can often be found hanging on office walls. Certificates show that a person is qualified to do his or her job. During World War I, many nurses trained to become American Red Cross Nurses so that they could go overseas and help with the war effort. Bess Swearngen was one such nurse. Ms. Swearngen graduated from St. Peter’s Hospital Training School in Charlotte, North Carolina and received this Red Cross Nursing Service certificate in 1917.
