Goffering iron and stand
Title: Goffering iron and stand
Identifier: Historic Hope Plantation   (https://digital.lib.ecu.edu/14334)
Description: On clothing, little pieces of lace or ribbon could be pressed or curled using this tool, known as a goffering iron. The iron with the handle was heated in the fire then inserted into the hollow tube fixed on an iron stand. An enslaved house servant would then grasp the moist starched fabric in both hands and press it over the tube to achieve the desired effect. The accompanying video describes the object and its use. Date approximated.
