Description: This fine looking glass from the early 1800s was designed to go over a mantelpiece and reflect light throughout a room. It includes the image of an eagle, has been gilded, and includes its original backing. The eagle was already a symbol of the new American nation, and many fine decorative arts from the 1790s on used it as a way to show pride in American independence.
