Description: The telescope in Hope's collection was made by the Dollond company of London, probably in the early 1800s. It is made of brass with an adjustable three-legged stand. Telescopes or spyglasses sometimes show up in estate inventories of the period alongside other scientific instruments or books. The accompanying video describes the telescope and other scienticifc items from Stone's estate.
