China doll
Title: China doll
Identifier: Tobacco Farm Life Museum   (https://digital.lib.ecu.edu/14294)
Description: Before the wide use of plastics many dolls were made of wax, porcelain and cloth. The one pictured here is made of both porcelain and cloth. Her head, arms and legs are made of white porcelain. Her body is stuffed cloth. She is wearing a long white shift dress complete with petticoats. Her petticoats are adorned with lace on the bottom, which she reveals by holding up the left side of her dress. On her feet are painted black boots. To complete her outfit she is wearing a painted on red hat. Due to the fragility of porcelain this doll was probably not an everyday play doll but displayed instead. Date approximated.
