Crib
Title: Crib
Identifier: Historic Hope Plantation   (https://digital.lib.ecu.edu/13998)
Description: This walnut crib dates to the late 1700s and is located in the King-Bazemore parlor. In planter families, babies often stayed in the same room as the mother for several years. However, much of the work of caring for the baby was left to an enslaved woman serving as a nurse. By contrast, enslaved workers in the field were generally given no more than a month off of work to recover from childbirth. The accompanying video describes the history and context of the object.
