Description: The cut-out section of this brass bowls allows it to be placed under the chin to aid in shaving. It could also function in phlebotomy, or blood-letting, to collect blood from a sick patient. Many 18th- and 19th-century physicians recommended examining blood to help diagnose illness. The loop allows it to be hung up when not in use. The accompanying video describes its use.
