Butter churn
Title: Butter churn
Identifier: Tobacco Farm Life Museum   (https://digital.lib.ecu.edu/13970)
Description: The butter churn seen here is more modern (Patent 1910) than the hand plunger but it works on the same concept. Instead of someone having to move their whole hand up and down to incorporate air into the cream that is rendered from milk, the person would turn the handle on the wheel which made the plunger on the inside move up and down. The basic components of the churn are the same as its predecessor, a plunger with a handle and a ceramic container. The difference between the two churns lies in that this one is mechanized and thus will churn the butter a bit faster. The accompanying video describes its use. Date approximated.
