Description: Complete amputation set manufactured by A.S. Aloe & Company. Instruments within the wooden box include a Galt-style trephine, a metacarpal saw, a Hey's saw, a Capital saw, three knives that would have been used to cut through soft tissues, a scalpel or finger knife, a tenaculum (an instrument used to hook a bleeding vessel to pull it outward so it could be tied), an elevator used for raising a cut disk (i.e. from the trephine) of bone up and away from the skull, a fenestrated spring-forceps, and a small brush that would have been used to sweep sawed bone dust from a drilled piece of skull. Horse hair suture is within the compartment in the front of the case.
