Description: Photograph of Rev. Alphonse Paul Repiton, Sr. (1808-1876). Repiton, a native of Williamsburg, Va., was the son of Joseph Levoir and Mauguerite Tangier de Repiton. After serving as a Baptist minister in Wilmington, N.C., from 1838 until October 1869, he moved to Norfolk, Va. According to a handwritten note on the back of the photograph, he was one of four clergymen in Wilmington during the yellow fever scourge of 1862 and was the only one to survive. Date approximated.
