Description: Interview with East Carolina University alumna and high school principal Patricia Burden of Goldsboro, N.C. Mrs. Burden discusses her decision to attend a predominately white college in 1965 and the concerns she and her family had about that decision, her feelings during her initial days at school and the reactions of white classmates, her experiences addressing prejudices and stereotypes in her interactions with fellow students, the support she received from her mother and father, her relationship with a professor she initially felt might be prejudiced toward her, and her feeling that ECU was good preparation for her for work in predominately white environments after graduation. She also discusses working as a teacher and a school administrator in North Carolina and various other locations. Interviewer: Joanne Phipps.
