Va. and in Clayton, N.C., her experiences attending elementary and high schools in Clayton, and the circumstances that led to her being the first in her family to attend college. She discusses her time at ECU, including classes, teachers, life in the dorm and off campus, finding money to stay at school, her decision to major in education, and doing student teaching. She also discusses her work as a teacher in various locations including time spent in special education and at the N. C. Teacher Academy. Interviewer: Joyce Newman.
