Virginiae Item et Floridae Americae Provinciarum, nova Descriptio drawn by Johannes Cloppenburg of Amsterdam in 1630-1636. This map is a first edition, hand-colored and measuring 10" x 7". Depciting Floridia, Viriginia, and local tribes: Sanawanoock, Mangoack, Secotan, Paquiwock. Recto in Latin and French, verso is page 669 in French.

This collection contains a microfilm copy of the "History of the 37th Regiment, U.S. Colored Infantry" written by A. H. Stein (1866). Significant numbers of North Carolina men from Craven, Jones, Onslow, Beaufort, Carteret, and other nearby counties enlisted in the Union Army at New Bern and were assigned to this regiment. These soldiers were freed men, formerly enslaved, who had fled from the surrounding plantations to New Bern after it was occupied by the Union Army in 1862.

Partial casualty report (7/6/1863) for the 5th North Carolina Infantry at the Battle of Gettysburg 1 - 3 July 1863, missing pages 1 - 4, but recording the wounded of part of Company G, all of companies H, and K, and including a complete recapitulation of the regiment's losses: killed (39), wounded (235), and missing (55), signed by 2d Lt. Edward S. Smedes who was later killed in action at Spotsylvania Court House, VA.

This collection (March 12-27, 1863) includes three photographs of the 43rd Regiment Massachusetts Volunteers at Camp Rogers in New Bern, North Carolina and a letter from Union soldier John Buck to his wife Eve.

Papers (1811-1958) of A. D. Peace and Samuel Peace, and Matt Hankins, relating to Trinity College, North Carolina, Civil War battles at Washington, NC, Rappahannock Bridge, and Kelly's Ford, VA, including of copies, a memoir, clippings, genealogical notes, financial account, Bible records, amateur verse, contract, account of medical services.

The collection consists of a letter (1/8/1863) containing a description of Brig. Gen. John G. Foster's expedition from New Bern to Kinston and Goldsboro NC and back, 11-20 December 1862, including accounts of engagements at Kinston (14 Dec.), Whitehall (16 Dec.) and Goldsboro Bridge (17 Dec.), from George [?], a soldier in Company B of the 5th Massachusetts Infantry Regiment, to his Aunt Maria. Other items include a draft report (12/22/1862) by Colonel Charles R. Codman, 45th Massachusetts Volunteer Infantry Regiment (Cadet Regiment), of engagements at Kinston and White Hall, NC, (12/14 through 12/16/1862), and items related to Colonel Codman.

Muster roll for a detachment of the 29th Regiment U. S. Colored Troops Detachment under the command of Capt. Wilson Camp, dated June 30 – August 31, 1865. The roll documents the names, ranks, enlistment data, and service records of the 17-man detachment consisting of soldiers from Illinois, Indiana, and Maryland.

Collection (ca. 1930–1954) manuscript and printed materials relating to the early history of Pitt County, North Carolina, and the Greenville High School Class of 1946, including revised manuscript drafts of a history of Pitt County, including correspondence, clippings, brochures, pamphlets, maps and rationing labels.

Artwork and prints, primarily oversized, found in Country Doctor Museum items. Includes prints from "A History of Pharmacy in Pictures," "A History of Medicine in Pictures," "History of Anesthesia in Pictures," "Gay Philosopher" by Henry Major, "Pioneers of American Medicine" by Dean Cornwell, and other prints.

Papers of ECU alumnus Edward Brodie consisting of correspondence, articles and research for the East Carolinian/Fountainhead, research notes for the history of ECU, and Brodie's personal items and ephemera.

The Ephemera Collection contains items that were found in the Laupus Library History Collection that could not be identified to belong to a specific collection. It includes replica Confederate currency from Mississippi.

This collection (1821-2007) contains several groups of family history-related papers concerning eastern North Carolina and a large number of unrelated miscellaneous items such as photographs, church records, Bible records, and rare printed items on a variety of subjects. The majority of the family papers concern the Croom and Whitfield families of Lenoir County, N.C. Other family papers concern the Harvey family of Greene County, N.C., the Jordan and Waters families of Washington, N.C., the Meeks family of Pitt County, the Outlaw family of Lenoir County and the Thompson family of Georgia. A large part of this collection concerns the Ficklen family of Greenville, N.C., including scrapbooks, diaries, an autograph book and a post card collection. Some items concern the colorful poet, magazine editor, railroad speculator, paper mill owner, Civil War blockade-runner, and sea captain Appleton Oaksmith who lived in Carteret County, N.C., for fifteen years (1872-1887). Also included are ambrotype photographs of Confederate Civil War soldiers James Needham Alexander, who served in Company A, 11th North Carolina Troops (Infantry) and Stanhope Washington Alexander, who served in Company H, 35th North Carolina Regiment.

The collection has papers, photographs, personal items, patient records, and oral history of Milton D. Quigless, along with drafts and related materials to his autobiography, Looking Back: The Way It Was.

A collection (ca. 1885-1918, undated) of 55 cartes de visite and cabinet cards mounted on cardboard, a scrapbook containing 11 snapshots, a manuscript, and printed materials belonging to John Miller Faison, a North Carolina physician, Democratic Party leader, and Congressman from the N.C. Third District between 1911 and 1915.
