Negative files (1920-1967) and electronic files (on CDs) of photographs (1968-1989) used for the publishing of The Daily Reflector newspaper. The collection documents daily news and events in Greenville, NC and its surrounding area.

Collection contains a newspaper clipping (6/10/1923) entitled "Christian Church Growth in 20 Years Proud Record, Dedication Services Sunday" from the Greenville, North Carolina, Daily Reflector.

This collection consists of four minute books of the Old Sparta Primitive Baptist Church, Edgecombe County, North Carolina, for the period of 1899 through 1998.

On January 14, 2009, Dale Sauter (Grant Project Director) and Chris Oakley (Grant Historian) interviewed David J. Whichard II and Stuart Savage. Both Whichard and Savage have been at the Daily Reflector for most of their lives. Whichard's grandfather and his grandfather's brother founded the newspaper in the late 1800s. Savage retired in March 2009 with fifty years at the newspaper. They have both been involved in the newspaper in many capacities, including Whichard as one time publisher, and Savage as photographer. What makes this interview so special are the reflections of both Whichard and Savage about their experiences at the newspaper and in the Greenville area. Obviously, many changes have occurred since the start of the careers and the present day. These changes include both the physical processes, as well as the whole nature of the newspaper business. During this time there have also been dramatic and sweeping social transformations in Greenville that also mirror changes that occurred on a state and national level. Yukon gold rush diary (1898 - 1899) (Photocopy [117 p.]) and typescript copy with introduction by Frank Moss [January 1998, 44 p.] and copies of photographic prints of Yukon gold rush [15 p.] Original diary withdrawn 5/9/2002, in possession of the donors.

This collection contains 8" x 10" photographs taken by Edwin A. Martin when he was a professor in the Philosophy Department at North Carolina State University and Curator of Photography at the North Carolina State University Visual Arts Center in the 1990s. The tobacco images cover a season of tobacco farming in the Wendell, North Carolina, area from planting through auction. The images of Harkers Island, North Carolina, document the daily life of the local fishing population. A 1998 publication Hope for a Good Season containing some of these Harkers Island photographs is also included.

Collection contains material related to the Smiley family history in North Carolina collected by Joan and Ralph Smiley, photocopies of material related to the life and death of country music musician Arthur Lee "Red" Smiley, Jr. of Asheville, NC, who had toured with Don Reno and the Tennessee Cut-Ups, and clippings from the Raleigh News and Observer related to Klan violence in Eastern NC in 1967. Other material related to Immanuel Baptist Church in Greenville, to Agnes Wadlington Barrett, and to the Putnam Family have been moved to other collections.

The collection consists twenty-two black and white interior and exterior photographs of the WNCT television station and the station employees. The photographs are believed to be from the 1950s.

Collection contains Greenville and Pitt County, North Carolina, related photographs and ephemera (1917-2007) concerning the Pickwick Book Club, Girl Scouts, Greenville High School, and the Greenville Rotary Club, as well as documents commending the 7th Division American Expeditionary Force for their service in World War I. A large portion of the collection relates to the genealogy of the Goree, Kittrell, Hardee/Hardy, Tull, Proctor, and Hinton families, especially in Eastern North Carolina.

Papers (1760 [1880] - 1935) including correspondence, financial papers, account books, daybooks, essays, speeches, legal records, land records, notebooks, etc. of Eastern North Carolina farmer, leader of the NC Tobacco Growers Association, and NC Secretary of State (1901-1923), etc.
