Collection (1760-1965) consisting of financial and legal documents, correspondence, genealogical material, a scrapbook, newspapers clippings, photographs, reports.

Collection (1883–1910) consisting of correspondence, eight Civil War pension application ledgers, 2 account books and church record book. The majority of the collection consists of claims for pensions by blacks who served in the U.S. Army and U.S. Navy during the Civil War. The claims request compensation for wounds and injuries received or diseases contracted by the applicants. Claims were submitted either by the veterans themselves or by their survivors. While the majority of claimants appear to have lived in the vicinity of New Bern and James City, North Carolina, many resided throughout the central portion of eastern North Carolina. The ledgers were once the property of Frederick Douglass, a black lawyer, minister, and teacher of New Bern who handled the claims.

Papers of U.S. Navy enlisted man (1863-1864) aboard the US sloop of War Powhatan, including a private log book (Nov. 1863 - Aug. 1864), correspondence, a manuscript entitled " The Attack on Charleston," and a daguerreotype of a Civil War sailor (presumably Thomas).

This collection includes records related to the Croom Family especially the annual Croom Family Reunion held at the Croom Meeting House at Sandy Bottom Community on Highway 55 West in Lenoir County, North Carolina. Included are a 1930 photograph of the first Croom Family Reunion, programs, attendance sheets, minutes, obituaries, updated family charts, articles about the Reunion, and tombstone listings.

This collection (ca. 188196-1986) includes items collected by the donor's father Fred S. Hudson, Jr., related to early American illustrators, especially for children's literature. Included are prints, magazine covers, whole magazines, illustrations for magazine stories, an original pen and ink drawing, advertisements, books, posters, figurines, frontispieces and china plates.

This collection contains the records of Chi Beta Phi including administrative records, publications, printed materials, scrapbooks, and artifacts.

Collection (circa 1988) of research material, interview transcripts, audiovisual materials, and clippings compiled by the donor for his UNC-TV documentary Boogie in Black and White, a film about the making of the movie Pitch a Boogie Woogie. This movie was shot in Greenville, North Carolina in 1947 using a local cast of African American musicians and actors, by John W. Warner, then owner of the Plaza Theatre in Greenville. The material in this collection includes an outline, subject background and questions regarding "The Block", a popular area in Greenville, all used for the making of Boogie in Black and White. Also included are questions for interviewees. Photocopy typescripts.
