On January 14, 2009, Dale Sauter (Grant Project Director) and Chris Oakley (Grant Historian) interviewed David J. Whichard II and Stuart Savage. Both Whichard and Savage have been at the Daily Reflector for most of their lives. Whichard's grandfather and his grandfather's brother founded the newspaper in the late 1800s. Savage retired in March 2009 with fifty years at the newspaper. They have both been involved in the newspaper in many capacities, including Whichard as one time publisher, and Savage as photographer. What makes this interview so special are the reflections of both Whichard and Savage about their experiences at the newspaper and in the Greenville area. Obviously, many changes have occurred since the start of the careers and the present day. These changes include both the physical processes, as well as the whole nature of the newspaper business. During this time there have also been dramatic and sweeping social transformations in Greenville that also mirror changes that occurred on a state and national level. Papers concerning his community service work in the Greenville, Sheltered Workshop, Red Cross, Heart Association, United Fund, Art Museum and other community activities accumulated during his employment in the East Carolina University student stores, 1/1/1968 - 7/30/1987.
Included are eighteen photographs of American Expeditionary Force troops in athletic competition possibly taken at Andernach, Germany, in 1919. The photographs range in size roughly from 4" x 6 3/4" to 4 1/2" x 9" and 6 1/2" x 9", and three are duplicates taken at different light settings. Four different photographs show General John Joseph "Black Jack" Pershing reviewing the troops and the remainder show the troops involved in sporting events such as a sack race, tug of war, sprints, and relays. Two of the photographs bear the photographer's mark of F. A. Ritter, Andernach.

Papers (1830-2014, undated) [Bulk: 1895-1970] of the Humber Family, documenting the lives of Robert Lee Humber, Jr. (1898-1970) and his extended family, including the papers of his father, Robert Lee Humber, Sr. (1864-1952), a businessman and inventor and his mother, Lena Clyde Davis Humber (1870-1936) and her family, of Kinston, Greenville and Davis Island, North Carolina; his siblings, John Davis Humber, MD (1895-1991), Leslie Mumford Humber (1907-1925), and Lena Dye Humber Smith (1902-1973); also including his wife, Lucie Julie Jeanne Berthier Humber (1895-1982) and the Berthier family of Villeneuve and Paris, France, and their children and grandchildren, families, educations, careers, activities, and writings; including correspondence, files, ephemera, museum objects, published materials and oversized materials, arranged generally in alphabetical order by the donors.
This collection (1823-1999) contains the papers of Robert "Bob" Boyd Robinson III. Robinson, born in 1948 in Halifax County, N.C., was a member of various groups including the Sons of the Revolution in the State of North Carolina. His papers include materials related to various families of Northeastern North Carolina and Southeastern Virginia.
Willard and Daisy Rowe Papers (1963-2006) contain newsletters,clippings, publications and a poster documenting the work of the Evangelical Baptist Mission in Franklin County, North Carolina, and in Guatemala.
Diary and military records of Carter Berkeley Simpson (1915-1944). Includes a typescript of a diary and a facsimile of the diary. The facsimile includes photographs, military records, receipts of letters, correspondence, and a description of daily routine activities during Simpson's service and as a prisoner of war.
