Papers (1905-1942) of Allen Jay Maxwell, N.C. Commissioner of Revenue (1929-1942), including a biographical sketch, newspaper clippings, photographs, and speeches relating to state tax issues, his campaigns for N.C. governor, dissatisfaction with public school history textbooks and other aspects of his life.

Material (1862-2017) including correspondence, manuscripts, photographs, narrative reminiscences, and a muster roll (1862) and other original documents related to Dr. William N. Still, Jr.'s career as a well-known and respected maritime historian and author. His research topics included shipbuilding in North Carolina, maritime history, and Naval history in the American Civil War through World War II.

Artwork and prints, primarily oversized, found in Country Doctor Museum items. Includes prints from "A History of Pharmacy in Pictures," "A History of Medicine in Pictures," "History of Anesthesia in Pictures," "Gay Philosopher" by Henry Major, "Pioneers of American Medicine" by Dean Cornwell, and other prints.

Papers (1767-1976) of three generations of Beaufort County, NC, lawyers named William B. Rodman, including correspondence, letterpress books, speeches, financial records, legal files, farm records, clippings, printed material, newspapers, photographs, genealogical material and miscellaneous. Originally from New York, the Rodmans married into the prominent Blount family in Beaufort County, NC. The Rodmans also held local and state government offices and were judges.

Printed materials (1960-1990) received by Drs. Joseph and Lala Steelman related to the National Democratic Party and related organizations concerning social, environmental, and political issues (1969-1990). The collection also includes family files on Steelman and Edmisten families, plus large collection of familial correspondence. Records pertaining to the Steelmans' time at East Carolina are located in University Archives.

Papers (1783–1930, [bulk 1862–1930]) consisting of correspondence, diaries, photographs, photograph albums, literary manuscripts, newspapers and newspaper clipping, a book of poetry, genealogical notes, etc., documenting the life of Commodore George L. Dyer, whose naval career spanned the years 1870 to 1908, and his family. He served in various stations, with particular emphasis on the West Indies, the Asiatic Station, Cuba, Madrid (as naval attache), and Guam (as governor).

Material relating to the life of Clarence Stasavich before he came to East Carolina University in 1962 to be the head football coach (and later athletic director) and after his death in 1975. Included is correspondence (1942-1945) related to his time in the U.S. Navy during World War II where he was an LST Commander in several theatres of war, items related to his time at Lenoir Rhyne College as a football coach prior to coming to East Carolina University, and clippings and documents related to his death in 1975, the subsequent memorial service, and scholarships created in his memory.

Interview with Roper, NC, native, who attended East Carolina Teachers College during World War II, 1938-1942, pertaining to her childhood on the family tobacco farm, student years, teaching in Colerain, NC, becoming an air traffic controller in West Palm Beach, FL, the Washington, DC sniper case, marriages, move to California, return to Greenville, Class assignment for Professor Lu Ann Jones' Fall 2002 History 5960 Class. Interview (ca. 1920-2002) with East Carolina Teachers College student from Winterville and Rountree NC, who left school after one year to serve in the Army during World War II in Italy, Yugoslavia and Kosovo, and who spent most of his career working in an automobile parts store on Cotanche Road, Greenville, N.C. This log book contains daily entries from October 29, 1816, through November 29, 1818, for the Schooner Hilan. John Hand is the Master of the schooner which sailed between eastern seaboard ports Philadelphia, Norfolk, Richmond, and Charleston. Entries cover weather, cargo listings, upkeep of the schooner, issues with crew members and passengers, and problems with the schooner related to harsh weather.

A collection including a logbook (9/11/1854-7/11/1863) for the ship Trafalgar, a packet ship with the City of Dublin Line, written by Captain Alfred William Harrison during its many voyages primarily between London, England and Madras, India, and other ports of call, a handwritten letter, a Mariner's Register Ticket, and other papers describing his voyages and medical illnesses, and a carte de visite of Capt. Harrison.

The four month stay in Cuba of the 1st Battalion, 1st North Carolina Volunteers, from December 1898 through March 1899 is documented in these sixty amateur albumen photographs with captions. The photographs are 3 1/2" x 3 3/8" in 5 1/2" x 5 1/2" mounts. The soldiers arrived in Havana, Cuba, the day after the Treaty of Paris was signed ending the Spanish American War.
