Collection includes 20 World War II era U.S. Ration Books issued to Arthur G. Mangum and his family members of Walstonburg, Greene County, North Carolina. Also included are a Fuel Oil Ration Book and 3 Mileage Ration Books. These ration books document the experience of necessities being rationed during the war, and the physical description and familial connections of the people to whom the ration books were issued.

Included are correspondence, land records, legal records, receipts, wills, and estate records related to the Laughinghouse and Pugh families of Pitt County, N.C., the related Bright and Loftin families of Lenoir County, N.C., and the Pipkin family of Wayne County, N.C. This material was transferred from the Emily Loftin Collection at the History Museum of Carteret County, N.C. Material related to Carteret County remains at the History Museum of Carteret County.
