Papers (1923-1993, 2001, undated) including correspondence, writings, newspaper clippings, photographs, and pamphlets related to the life of Robert Edward Harrill (1893-1972), known as the Fort Fisher Hermit from about 1955 when he moved into an abandoned World War II bunker at Fort Fisher, North Carolina, until his death.

Genealogical materials for Dixon, Haddock, Hemby, Laughinghouse, Nelson, Jenkins, Baldree, Dail-Deal, Flake, Kittrell and other families of Pitt County, NC. Also includes local history and biographical sketches by William B. Kittrell, a DVD of a Motion picture of Greenville, North Carolina (ca. 1940s-1950s) showing ordinary daily scenes and local buildings, CD of early 20th Century Pitt County schools, and 2 DVDRs made from 8mm reels of home movies (1947-1967) made by the Keel family of Greenville, N.C.

Papers (1902-1980s, undated) of Greenville, NC, lawyer and member (1956-1961) of the N.C. House of Representatives and Greenville Mayor (1969-1971) Frank Marion Wooten, Jr. (1916-1992) consisting of correspondence, pamphlets, proposed bills, reports, petitions, resolutions, bulletins, periodicals, printed bills, and photographs. Crime and punishment-related topics, and tax issues are major topics covered.

Papers (1935-1947) including memorandums, manuals, publications, grade reports, and newsletters.

William and Harry Whittaker were brothers who both served in the U.S. Army during the Vietnam War. William mainly served in West Germany while Harry was sent to Vietnam in 1967. Their letters to each other cover the years 1964 to 1968 and discuss both basic training in Fort Dix, New Jersey, and Fort Jackson, South Carolina, and their service in West Germany and Vietnam. Also included are numerous photographs taken by Harry while he was stationed in Vietnam.

This collection contains correspondence (August 1941-June 1942, undated) between Richard H. Owen and his parents, especially his mother Mrs. M. A. Owen in Miami, Florida, while he was serving aboard the USS Crescent City and stationed at the U.S. Naval Air Station at Corpus Christi, Texas. Also included is a notepad containing First Aid lessons and addresses.

Collection (1899-1957 [Bulk: 1899-1954]) of diaries by Rev. J.G. Cassel, a Brethren of Christ missionary in Guatemala, 1899-1957; also an untitled history of missionary work in Guatemala by William Haymaker, written in 1947, describing his missionary career, 1887-1947. 8 vols. This collection contains material related to the Naval service of William Laedlein Wentz (November 25, 1925-April 8, 2014). Included are his Naval records such as correspondence, orders, and inventory forms plus a couple of items related to visits to Korea and China, and Historical Notes for Personnel of the Naval Operating Base at Saipan on Navy Day (October 27, 1946), and reproductions of the December 7, 1941, issue or Honolulu Star-Bulletin 2nd Extra and the December 8, 1941 issue of the Honolulu Advertiser.

Collection (1862-1994) containing correspondence, service records, photographic prints, newspapers, newsletters and clippings, scrapbook, publications, pamphlets and other miscellaneous papers relating to the American Civil War, the Spanish American War, World War I and World War II; also relating to the U.S. Navy, its ships, stations, and personnel; donated by various individuals to the U. S. Naval Memorial Foundation and transferred to its collection at various times; arranged in original order.

Collection (1766-2010) consists of items related to the Augustus Moore (June 8, 1803-March 23, 1851) family of Chowan and Halifax Cos., N.C., his children Augustus Minton Moore, William Armistead Moore, Henrietta Moore Sutton, Susan Augustus Moore Righton, Mary Elizabeth Moore, Alfred Moore and John Armistead Moore, and the descendants of John Armistead Moore. Included are account books, legal records, land transactions, estate records, correspondence, clippings, and autograph books (1855, 1865) belonging to family members who attended Miss Willard's Female Seminary in Troy, N.Y., and Patapsco Female Institute in Ellicott City, Maryland. Also included are identified photographs (cartes de visite, tintypes, cased pictures, albums) of the Moore, Gilliam, and Skinner, families, religious books such as Roman Catholic Missals, Episcopal Books of Common Prayer and Bibles, UNC-Chapel Hill diplomas (1824), and items related to the 1878 Exposition in Paris, France.

Interview with Roy H. Lake (1923-2018), a member of the U.S. Navy B-1 Band, the first all-African American Band in the U.S. Navy during World War II. Verso of the audiotape includes the U.S. Navy B-1 Band Reunion Memorial Service at the Baptrist Student Union of East Carolina University on 10/19/2003. Received 11/10/2003.
