This collection contains a memoir (ca. 1872) about life in New Bern, N.C., from 1822 to 1872. It includes biographical and informational data concerning politicians, lawyers and other important New Bern figures, as well as descriptions of life in New Bern and historical incidents of the period. An appendix contains transcripts of letters from prominent people.

Collection consists of a two volumes titled "Journal of a Cruise from Norfolk, Virginia to the Pacific Ocean in the United States Frigate United States, Isaac Hull, Esq'r, Commander" kept by Philadelphian midshipman Lawrence Penington from 4 December 1823, through 22 April 1827. United States was one of six frigates authorized to be constructed by the Naval Act of 1794 and it served as the flagship for Commodore Hull who was head of the American naval squadron on the Pacific Coast of South America. Penington documents navigation statistics, weather reports and daily ship life, along with the larger issues of interaction between the American naval squadron and British, Spanish, Chilean, Colombian and Peruvian naval and military counterparts.

Robinson, born in 1948 in Halifax County, N.C., was a member of various groups including the Sons of the Revolution in the State of North Carolina. His papers include materials related to various families of Northeastern North Carolina and Southeastern Virginia.

This collection consists 16 unique images, with the remaining items consisting of multiple copies, of file photos of Amelia Earhart, dating from 1918 through 1937. Images include celebrations of Amelia Earhart's first Trans Atlantic flights in 1928, her appearances for the First Powder Puff Air Derby, her attempts to establish various records, and her appearance before the United States Senate. The earliest image depicts Earhart's graduation portrait from 1918. The last photo was taken in Oakland, California, just before her departure to Hawaii in 1937. Two images include Amy Otis Earhart, mother of Amelia Earhart. Most of the photographs in this collection are identified as coming from the files of Underwood & Underwood, a longtime supplier of news photographs in New York, New York.

Joyner Library at East Carolina University, in October 1973, prior to the construction of two extra floors and the addition of a new west wing to the building, for Library Science 1000 class; also photocopies of correspondence, historical research reports, and newspaper clippings about the Greenville Town Common Confederate flags controversy, in 1983–1989; also photocopies of newspaper clippings about the Confederate flag, 1983–1989. Donald Read Eglee Papers relating to his service in the United States Navy and Naval Reserve, 1943-1984, including correspondence, notes, photographs, official service records, printed materials, etc.
Collection (ca. 1936-1997) relates to the life and career of Arthur Greenville McIntyre; an Lieutenant Commander of the United States Navy who was a U.S. Naval Academy graduate (Class of 1941) and who served in the Pacific theater of World War II. McIntyre served on the submarine U.S.S. Grenadier until it was lost in April 1943 by Japanese bombing. As a result of the attack, he became a prisoner of war of the Japanese and was not released until September of 1945. The bulk of the collection is on McIntyre's naval career but there is also material containing his biographical information and information on his time as a prisoner of war. Of particular interest are documents that have information on the Japanese who ran the POW camps and who were tried in the war crimes trials that were held in Japan. The documents lists their names and the sentences they received as a result of those trials. The majority of the documents in the collection are in English but some are in Japanese and Spanish with no translation.
