George T. Bowman Papers

This archive covers the early life and long United States Army career of Brigadier General George T. Bowman (b. 1869 and d. 1951). His career included service (stateside) during the Spanish-American War with the New York 65th Volunteer Infantry, with various New York volunteer and regular Army units in the Philippines (1899-1904), in Cuba (1906-1909), with Gen. John Pershing on the Mexican border (1915-1916), during World War I (1918-1919), and in Germany after World War I ended. Included are correspondence, orders and other military documents, photographs, newspaper and magazine articles, maps, narratives and commentary by Bowman, and a diary.

Alex Albright Collection

Collection contains mainly material related to the African American Navy Band members who served at the Great Lakes Naval Base during World War II (1942-1945). This material includes programs and related material from the February 28-March 2, 2003, salute to these African American band members that was held in Chicago, Illinois, and from former band member Carl Foster's participation in a symposium sponsored by the North Carolina Museum of History in 2003. Other material includes programs (1987) for concerts by the North Carolina Jazz Ensemble and a 1945 USO Hawaii booklet.

It is a Nazi propaganda biography of Adolf Hitler (published in 1936) in the form of an album with text that includes 188 black and white and 5 colored mounted cigarette cards produced by Cigaretten-Bilderdienst. Also included are fifty-seven 4 7/8" x 6 5/8" and sixty-six 3 1/8" x 4 5/8" black and white Nazi propaganda cigarette cards (circa 1933).
