Two minute books (September 1874-January 1949) for the Conoho Primitive Baptist Church that was located near Oak City, Martin County, North Carolina. The church was founded in 1794 by former members of Flat Swamp Church. The church building was torn down ca. 1970, leaving a cemetery still in existence.
On January 14, 2009, Dale Sauter (Grant Project Director) and Chris Oakley (Grant Historian) interviewed David J. Whichard II and Stuart Savage. Both Whichard and Savage have been at the Daily Reflector for most of their lives. Whichard's grandfather and his grandfather's brother founded the newspaper in the late 1800s. Savage retired in March 2009 with fifty years at the newspaper. They have both been involved in the newspaper in many capacities, including Whichard as one time publisher, and Savage as photographer. What makes this interview so special are the reflections of both Whichard and Savage about their experiences at the newspaper and in the Greenville area. Obviously, many changes have occurred since the start of the careers and the present day. These changes include both the physical processes, as well as the whole nature of the newspaper business. During this time there have also been dramatic and sweeping social transformations in Greenville that also mirror changes that occurred on a state and national level. Papers of Eudora Welty (1909-1986 [Bulk: 1930-1980], undated) documenting the life and literary career of the noted Jackson, Mississippi-born American short story writer, novelist, journalist, photographer, and educator, who wrote about the American South; including correspondence; manuscripts, original art, photographic prints, proofs of published materials, audio recordings, printed material, and loose manuscript items transferred from the Stuart Wright Book Collection, by or about Eudora Welty, Donald Davie, Richard Ghormley Eberhart, Shelby Foote, Ross Macdonald, Katherine Anne Porter, George William Russell, Allen Tate, Robert Penn Warren, and others; in English & French language.
The Utaka Hashimoto Papers (1942-1946, undated), consists of a scrapbook, entitled Utaka's Over Sea Souvenir, compiled by Hashimoto's wife, Mitsuyo "Mitzie" Hashimoto, to document her husband's World War II military intelligence service as a Technician 5th class, in the 163rd and 171st Language Detachments, 32nd Infantry Division, I Corps, United States Army, which was assigned to the Southwest Pacific and Occupation of Japan. The scrapbook focuses on his overseas service, from October 1945 through May 1946, aboard the troopships SS JAMES H. KINKAID (WSAT AP USAT-480) and SS MARSHALL VICTORY (VC2-S-AP2); his brief deployment in Manila, the Philippines during October - November 1945; and in various locations in Japan from November 1945 to May 1946. Included are correspondence, newsletter clippings, photographic prints, black and white and color postcards, printed forms, U.S. Military and Occupation and Japanese currencies, and ephemera from Japan. Additional items document Utaka Hashimoto's military service and also include photocopies of records of his wife's voluntary evacuation (before their marriage) due to the resettlement of Japanese Americans during WWII and that of her second husband who was in a relocation camp.

This collection contains a memoir (ca. 1872) about life in New Bern, N.C., from 1822 to 1872. It includes biographical and informational data concerning politicians, lawyers and other important New Bern figures, as well as descriptions of life in New Bern and historical incidents of the period. An appendix contains transcripts of letters from prominent people.

Diary and military records of Carter Berkeley Simpson (1915-1944). Includes a typescript of a diary and a facsimile of the diary. The facsimile includes photographs, military records, receipts of letters, correspondence, and a description of daily routine activities during Simpson's service and as a prisoner of war.
Collection contains brochures and correspondence related to Founders Week activities at East Carolina University.
Log book (December 1, 1851 through November 25, 1853) of the U.S. Brig Annandale of Camden, Maine, kept by first mate (and later captain) S. Pendleton of Isleboro, Maine, during 29 voyages along the east coast of the United States. Information is given on courses, winds, leeway, remarks, latitude, etc., during the voyages, as well as relative information collected when the brig is in harbor between voyages.
This collection (1823-1999) contains the papers of Robert "Bob" Boyd Robinson III. Robinson, born in 1948 in Halifax County, N.C., was a member of various groups including the Sons of the Revolution in the State of North Carolina. His papers include materials related to various families of Northeastern North Carolina and Southeastern Virginia.
Account book (29 December 1863 – 6 July 1866) kept by Captain Paul Stevens of the Bark Catalpa recording the state of his financial dealings with the owners of the ship, including accounts for his salary, crews' wages and expenses; spending for provisions, ship chandlers, ship carpenters, charterers, pilotage, etc., during the ship's voyages back and forth between Shanghai, China and Nagasaki, Japan; probably originating in New York, NY.
