This collection consists of original photographs, photographic prints (copies), negatives and proof sheets (ca. 1890-1900, 1950s -1970s) documenting history in and around the area of Murfreesboro, North Carolina. These consist primarily of images of businesses, buildings, boats and ferries, mills, cemeteries and gravestones, architectural features of interest, churches, schools, people and historical houses.

Papers (1905-1942) of Allen Jay Maxwell, N.C. Commissioner of Revenue (1929-1942), including a biographical sketch, newspaper clippings, photographs, and speeches relating to state tax issues, his campaigns for N.C. governor, dissatisfaction with public school history textbooks and other aspects of his life.

Papers (1844-1945) consisting memoir, diary, photographs, description of imprisonment, prisoner of war camp, diary, move on foot covering 603 miles, wartime log.

Papers (1943-1945) consisting of a memoir, with preface, maps, table of content, describing the author's experiences in Co. D., 20th Marines (Engineers), 4th Marine Division, U.S. Marine Corps during World War II, including the battles for the Marshall Islands, Saipan, Tinian, and Iwo Jima.

Papers of Aaron Copland (1943-2005 [Bulk: 1971-1997]) documenting the life and musical career of the iconic Brooklyn, New York-born American composer, consisting of correspondence between Stuart Wright and Copland and others relating to Copland, 1977-1997; also loose manuscript items transferred from the Stuart Wright Book Collection relating to Aaron Copland; photographic prints; original art; brochures, pamphlets and periodicals relating to Aaron Copland; in English, French & Spanish language.

Papers (1809-1928) including correspondence, land records, maps, diary fragments, financial papers, etc. of farmer, church leader, and local office holder.

Papers (1820s-1950s) including correspondence, financial, genealogical and other records of a Grifton, NC family involved in a mercantile business, tobacco farming, and tax collection.

This record group contains visual media documenting the university, including black and white prints, color prints, negatives, color slides, and born-digital images.

Papers (1766-1898, undated) of the Clark and Spragins families of Halifax County, Virginia, including correspondence, financial records, legal papers, political reference, and miscellaneous.

Papers (ca. 1890-2008, undated) of Vice Admiral Robert Lee Ghormley, a member of the U.S. Naval Academy Class of 1906, including correspondence, orders, diaries, memoirs, photographic prints and negatives, certificates and commissions, legal papers, printed forms, ephemera, scrapbooks, newspaper clippings, maps, museum objects, broadsides and posters and publications related to his education, family and personal life, in Tacoma, Washington, Moscow, Idaho, and Washington, D.C.; his naval career; his life in retirement, 1946-1958; and also including genealogical and historical essays compiled by his son, Commander Robert Lee Ghormley, Jr. (U.S. Navy ret.). Vice Admiral Ghormley served in China, Nicaragua, World War I, and in Haiti. Between the world wars he had several appointments and also served as commander of the destroyer USS Sands and the battleship USS Nevada. During World War II, he saw service as President Franklin D. Roosevelt's Special Naval Observer in Europe, August 1940-April 1942; as Commander, South Pacific Area and South Pacific Force, and the battle for Guadalcanal and the Solomon Islands, April-October 1942; as Commander of the Fourteenth Naval District and the Hawaiian Sea Frontier, 1943-1944; and as Commander of United States Naval Forces in Europe, 1944-1945.

Papers (1836-1977) including genealogical materials, clippings, census materials, clippings, speeches, travel diary and correspondence, etc.

Papers of father and son physicians Zebulon M. Caveness and William F. Caveness. The papers consist mainly of books of medical school notes; medical correspondence, certificates, and documents; a patient ledger from Zebulon M. Caveness; and a Curriculum Vitae from William F. Caveness.

U.S. Navy Memorial Foundation Collection: Arch F. Seabrook Papers consists of one photograph that features the officers of USS Liddle (APD-60) in the Leyte Gulf.
