This collection contains the records of the Friends of Portsmouth Island including minutes (1990-2016), correspondence, by-laws, 1994 incorporation documents, grant documents, and issues (1991-2016) of their newsletter Doctor's Creek Journal. Also included are documents related to Homecomings at Portsmouth Village (1980, 1992-2016), a DVD produced by the National Geographic Society titled "Portsmouth: Island with a Soul," and a DVD of a project done by UNC-Chapel Hill students titled "Portsmouth—In Search of the Past."

Papers of Anne Tyler (1980, 1983) documenting the life and literary career the noted Minneapolis, Minnesota-born American novelist and short story writer; consisting of loose manuscript items transferred from the Stuart Wright Book Collection pertaining to The Best American Short Stories, edited by Anne Tyler (1983); also an oversized archival folder including a review by Anne Tyler of Toni Cade Bambara's novel, The Salt Eaters, in the Washington Post Book World (30 March 1980).

Papers of Peter Hillsman Taylor (1908-1995, undated) documenting the life and literary career of the noted American short story writer, novelist, biographer, and playwright, who specialized in subjects related to the Upper South, including manuscript materials and correspondence, especially his World War II letters to his wife, Eleanor Ross Taylor; proofs of published materials; loose manuscripts from the Stuart Wright Book Collection; and oversized materials, by or about Peter Hillsman Taylor, Madison Smartt Bell, Robert Penn Warren, Eudora Welty, and others, in English and French language.

Papers of Seymour Epstein (1973) documenting the life and literary career of the noted Brooklyn, New York-born American short story writer, novelist and educator at the University of Denver, 1968-1986; consisting of an unrevised, uncorrected, spiral bound, proof of his novel Making Contact (1973).

Papers of R. V. Verlin (1950-1970 [Bulk: 1970]) documenting the life and literary career of the prolific Cedar Falls, Iowa-born American novelist and short story writer, who was also a reviewer, editor, painter, lithographer and creative writing educator at the University of Washington, Columbia University, the Iowa Writer's Workshop, and Brown University, among other universities; consisting of proofs and manuscript materials relating to his novel Doctor Cobb's Game (1970) and loose manuscript items transferred from the Stuart Wright Book Collection relating to Cassill's first novel The Eagle on the Coin (1950).
