Collection consists of five scrapbooks containing items related to the life of Judge Oliver H. Allen (b. March 20, 1850, Wake Co., N.C.; raised in Duplin Co., N.C.; d. December 16, 1925, Kinston, N.C.) and his ancestors and descendants. The date span covered is 1826 to 1980. Of particular interest are items related to Judge Allen's life, the Hicks family of Granville Co., N.C. (1826-1832 and photocopies of documents for late 1700s), the WWI service of William A. Allen and Judge Allen's sons Matthew H. Allen and Reynold Tatum Allen, and the lives of Judge Allen's daughter Martha Allen Barnes and her daughter Sarah Allen Barnes who married Benjamin Bruce Sugg, Jr. Items include clippings, correspondence, Oxford Academy and Trinity College student materials, photographs, resolutions, WWI military records, funeral bulletins, booklets, prints, and postcards. Also included are research materials concerning David Nevius Bogart of Washington, N.C., and related to the Bogart, Biggs, O'Cain, Lucas, Bonner, Peyton, and Snoad families of Beaufort County, N.C. Photographs, genealogy notes, Bible records, and correspondence relate to the Smallwood, Williams, and Hassell families of Williamston, N.C. Letters related to brothers Will and Bruce Smallwood discuss Will's travels and death (1918) in Alaska and Bruce's life and death (after 1894) in Mexico.
Steven N. Anastasion (U.S.N.A. 1942 graduate) served aboard the USS Champlin (DD601) from 1942 to 1945 and commanded the Destroyer Escort USS Melvin R. Nawman (DE 416) from 1952 to 1954 in Norway, Denmark and Guantanamo Bay, Cuba, the Destroyer USS Hawkins (DDR873) from 1958 to 1960 and the Guided Missile Cruiser USS Leahy (DLG-16) from 1964 to 1967 in the Mediterranean and the Caribbean. Papers refer to his service aboard these ships and include printed materials, newsletters, and navigational summaries. Also included are 2009 issues of The Seaweed, published by the USS Champlin Reunion Group and a transcription of an interview with Captain Anastasion done by Robert C. Bormann of the Undersea and Hyperbaric Medical Society.
Collection (1803-1996) pertaining to Martin County, NC, farmer John Conrad Getsinger, Sr., (Nov. 4, 1812-Jan. 16, 1891), a native of Wurttemburg, Germany, and several of his descendants consisting of correspondence, memoranda books, a sketchbook created by Mr. Getsinger while he was a soldier (1847-1848) fighting in the Mexican War, financial records, Civil War records pertaining to Mr. Getsinger and his son John C. Getsinger, Jr., religious publications, Primitive Baptist Church records (especially for Smithwick's Creek Primitive Baptist Church), pamphlets, broadsides, photographs, legal papers, newspaper clippings, and miscellany.

This collection consists of the records of the Institute of Outdoor Theatre which was founded in 1963 and includes material related to over 600 outdoor theatres, some of which began operation in the 1920s. Included are play scripts, correspondence, clippings, publicity material, video and audio recordings, feasibility studies, publications, reel-to-reel tapes, 35 mm slides, blueprints, and audition-related materials. This collection is being processed with the support of a National Historical Publications and Records Commission grant.
