[Ernst Theodor Amadeus] Hoffmann (1776-1822) that became the basis of the ballet of the same name by Peter Ilyich Tchaikovsky (1840-1893); translated by Ralph [Frederick] Manheim (1907-1992); pictures by Maurice Sendak; also including loose manuscript items transferred from the Stuart Wright Book Collection volume entitled The Art of Maurice Sendak (1982-1985), by Selma G. Lanes, including letters by and about Maurice Sendak to Stuart Wright.

Rev. Ivey James Wall, Jr. was born on May 16, 1938, in Craven County, NC. The collection spans 1960-2005 and includes files, notebooks, and photocopies of genealogical research related to Greenville, Pitt County, and Eastern North Carolina.

Papers of Beaver Dam Township, Pitt County, North Carolina farmer and justice of the peace, including bills, receipts, letters, maps, plats, & surveys, photographic print, writings, genealogical accounts, estate records, and agricultural records.

Collection (1863-1865) related to the American Civil War and Andrew Giddings of Company E, 3rd North Carolina infantry. Includes Oath of Allegiance to the United States signed by Andrew Giddings on November 6, 1865 [Following the American Civil War, Confederate officials, veterans and prisoners of war were obliged to sign an "oath of allegiance" to regain their civil rights under the U. S. Constitution.]. The collection also includes a note concerning the capture of Washington Rose, a member of Company C, 6th Louisiana Regiment at the Battle of the Wilderness. Most significantly, the collection contains Andrew Giddings' leather-bound diary and ledger of income and expenses, which includes eyewitness accounts of the engagements in which he participated, including Gettysburg, Cold Harbor, Sharpsburg, Malvern Hill, 2nd Winchester, Chancellorsville, and Wilderness. It also includes descriptions of his capture and imprisonment in a Union prisoner of war camp. The collection also includes an envelope that held the diary with "Granddad Giddings Diary" written on it.

This collection contains the personal and administrative records of Dr. Otto Henry, a former East Carolina University music professor. Many of the materials pertain to his time at East Carolina although there are also papers from his time as a student at Tulane University and teaching at Washington and Jefferson University.

Papers of William Jay Smith (1970-1983) documenting the life and literary career the noted Winfield, Louisiana-born American poet, and educator at Hollins College, Virginia who also served as the nineteenth poet laureate consultant in poetry to the Library of Congress (1968-1970); consisting of oversized printed materials, including broadsides and brochures, entitled Oxford Doggerel (1983) and Army Brat: A Dramatic Narrative for Three Voices by William Jay Smith (1982); also including loose manuscript items transferred from William Jay Smith's works in the Stuart Wright Book Collection, including publicity photographs found in Army Brat (1982) and New and Selected Poems (1944).

Papers of Hilary Masters (1984-1987) documenting the life and literary career of the noted Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania-born American novelist, short-story writer, memoirist, and educator at Carnegie-Mellon University, consisting of manuscripts and proofs of his novels and short story collections entitled (1986-1987), Buster's Head (1985), and Hammertown Tales (1986); also loose items transferred from his works in the Stuart Wright Book Collection (1985-1987); and oversized materials related to Hammertown Tales (1984, 1986).

Copy of The Greatest Anti-Submarine Action of All wars (an account of the World War II action of the USS George (DE-697) and copies of supporting documents, including the USS George war diary for May 1944.

This collection contains Teaching in the Two-Year College, a publication of the East Carolina Department of English. Publication features contributed essays related to English instruction, literature, and writing.
