The Karel B. Absolon Collection is comprised of Absolon family papers and Karel B. Absolon's research and collecting interest, particularly Theodor Billroth. The papers relating to Absolon's family span three generations and include Karel B. Absolon, Karel Absolon, Willibald Absolon, and Jaroslav Bakes (a cousin to Karel Absolon). Karel B. Absolon's primary research interest was Austrian abdominal surgeon Theodor Billroth (1829-1894). Absolon also collected items related to European, primarily men, in the science field. The collection includes correspondence, translations, prints, photographs, articles, ephemera, and original documents.

This collection contains literary and personal papers of Dr. Peter L. Makuck, Distinguished Professor Emeritus of the English Department, East Carolina University, Greenville, North Carolina, where he taught from 1978 to 2006. Included are correspondence, lecture and teaching notes, and drafts of poems and short stories. A large portion of this collection pertains to the publication Tar River Poetry from its founding in 1978 by Dr. Makuck, as a publication of the English Department at ECU, until 2015. Included are correspondence and all but one of the issues.

Papers (ca. 1923-1978, undated [bulk: 1955-1975]) of a prominent Greenville, North Carolina attorney and Democratic Party activist, who served as administrative assistant to U. S. Senator Samuel J. Ervin, Jr., 1955-1975, notably during the Watergate Scandal, and including personal, social, business and political files, photographic prints, and oversized materials relating to his life in Washington, DC, and North Carolina. Also contains information related to the life of his wife Marie Hardee Spain, a Greenville, North Carolina, native.

This collection contains letters (1964-1967) written by brothers Terrence and Dennis Miller of St. Louis, Missouri, who joined the U.S. Army during the Vietnam War. Letters written by Dennis Miller during 1967 document his time serving in Vietnam as part of 3rd BN, 60th Ord Co. Also included are letters written by fellow soldiers and friends (through 1971), service records, negatives, military payment certificates, and Vietnamese money.

This collection includes a ledger book containing records (August 1882-December 1996) of the Red Banks Primitive Baptist Church located at the intersection of Fourteenth Street and Fire Tower Road in Greenville, North Carolina. The church was founded in 1758, but the present building was built in 1893. Included are minutes of the Conference meetings (1882-1996) which also mention when members join or leave or die, lists of some of the members with identifying information related to membership status, and loose papers. Also included are a treasurer's book (1964-2000) and a minutes book (1990-2000).

Oral history interviews conducted with people connected with the health sciences, mainly in North Carolina. They include audiocassettes, videocassettes, CDs, DVDs, and transcripts.

Collection of two bound manuscript account books (1872-1892) of a physician practicing in Cameron and Carthage, Moore County, North Carolina, during the late 19th century and for part of that time in partnership with Calvin Graves, a pharmacist, including bills and receipts for office visits, medicines, and vague descriptions of treatments. One volume contains an alphabetical index of patient names for locating specific patient accounts. Also includes advertisements and postcards directed to physicians and/or pharmacists as well as a loose receipt.

Collection (1816-1899) including correspondence, legal papers, military papers, etc. relating to William D. Holt and his cotton sales business, local policies, railroad construction, the Farmers Alliance, private debts, his service during the Civil War, and business records.
