Glenn Charles Ames, born 29 March 1913 in Wisconsin, served the US Military from 1935-1975, primarily in the National Guard. The Glenn C. Ames collection spans the years 1927-1986 and consists of 598 items, including manuscripts, printed materials, and photographic prints relating primarily to his service in the 41st Infantry Division, United States Army, during World War II. The collection also documents his service as commanding general of the California National Guard, 1967-1975.

This collection contains the records of the Friends of Portsmouth Island including minutes (1990-2016), correspondence, by-laws, 1994 incorporation documents, grant documents, and issues (1991-2016) of their newsletter Doctor's Creek Journal. Also included are documents related to Homecomings at Portsmouth Village (1980, 1992-2016), a DVD produced by the National Geographic Society titled "Portsmouth: Island with a Soul," and a DVD of a project done by UNC-Chapel Hill students titled "Portsmouth—In Search of the Past."

Collection (1852-2014) includes correspondence, newspaper clippings, printed materials, and other items compiled by retired East Carolina University English professor emeritus Dr. Ralph Hardee Rives (1930-2016) relating primarily to the Hardee - Rives and related families of North Carolina and the United Kingdom, the history of Eastern North Carolina (especially Halifax County and the town of Enfield), the United Methodist Church in Eastern North Carolina, state and local and national politics, and his charitable and philanthropic interests. The earliest original documents cover the period from 1852 through the Civil War and World War I.

Camp Leach (NC) photographs (ca. 1930s) including images of the summer camp on the Pamlico River owned and operated by the Episcopal Diocese of East Carolina, its officials, staff, and campers. 14 black and white prints.

Papers (1905-1990) including correspondence, clippings, poems, a eulogy, play programs, photographs, genealogical information and play scripts concerning poet, playwright, journalist, editor, and actress Ruth Bellamy and the Bellamy family of the Enfield, North Carolina, area.

Papers of Mary Lee Settle (1956-1986 [Bulk: 1980-1984]) documenting the life and career of the popular Charleston, West Virginia-born American novelist, actress, and educator at Bard College, the Iowa Writers' Workshop, and the University of Virginia; consisting of loose manuscript items transferred from the Stuart Wright Book Collection volumes by Settle including All the Brave Promises (1966), The Killing Ground (1980), O Beulah Land (1956), The Scapegoat (1980), and Water World (1984), containing advertising letters, a biographical sketch of Settle by George Garrett, and Settle's letters to Stuart Wright, etc.

Correspondence (1861-1864) of Edgecombe County, N.C., soldier in Company F of the 30th Regiment of North Carolina Troops stationed in various locations in Virginia. All of his letters are addressed to his future wife, Miss Elizabeth S. Ward of Rocky Mount Depot, N.C. Two other letters are from North Carolina soldiers related to Miss Ward.
