Papers of Peter Hillsman Taylor (1908-1995, undated) documenting the life and literary career of the noted American short story writer, novelist, biographer, and playwright, who specialized in subjects related to the Upper South, including manuscript materials and correspondence, especially his World War II letters to his wife, Eleanor Ross Taylor; proofs of published materials; loose manuscripts from the Stuart Wright Book Collection; and oversized materials, by or about Peter Hillsman Taylor, Madison Smartt Bell, Robert Penn Warren, Eudora Welty, and others, in English and French language.

Wilbur Wright was born on April 16, 1867 near Millville, Indiana and his brother Orville was born in 1871. The boys owned a bicycle shop before using their experience, tools, and equipment to experiment with flight. The collection is circa 1920 and includes a pamphlet titled Essais de Wilbur Wright, Le Mans - 1908: La Conquete de l'Air / Wilbur Wright's Trial: The Conquest of the Air. The strength of this collection is the introduction and postcards detailing Wilbur Wright and his 1908 experimental and demonstration flights in Le Mans, France.

Collection (1899-1957 [Bulk: 1899-1954]) of diaries by Rev. J.G. Cassel, a Brethren of Christ missionary in Guatemala, 1899-1957; also an untitled history of missionary work in Guatemala by William Haymaker, written in 1947, describing his missionary career, 1887-1947. 8 vols. During the Civil War, Abijah Hollis of New Hampshire served with the 45th Regiment Massachusetts Volunteers as a second lieutenant in Company B under Colonel Charles R. Codman with heavy involvement in the North Carolina campaign, and in the 56th Regiment Massachusetts Volunteers. This collection consists of a typescript entitled STORIES OF THE WAR, FROM PERSONAL RECOLLECTIONS AND DIARIES, For My Children, A. Hollis, West Concord, N.H., January, 1884, and a transcriptrion by the donor with photographs; photocopies of official "carded medical records" for Hollis (1863-1864); copies of photographs of Hollis in uniform during the Civil War taken while stationed in New Berne (now New Bern), North Carolina, in his Union uniform with captain bars, in 1908-1910; and copies of photographs of Hollis's wife Harriette, his U.S. cartridge case, and his belt buckle used during the Civil War.

This collection contains a journal (November 21, 1894 – February 28, 1896) kept by Gilbert Smith Galbraith while he was serving as a U.S. Naval Cadet on board the USS Columbia. The USS Columbia was a Second Line Cruiser first commissioned on April 23, 1894, serving in the U.S. Navy until it was sold for scrap on January 23, 1922. Galbraith includes detailed technical descriptions of the ship and its components along with diagrams, blueprints, scale plans, maps, photographic prints, cyanotypes and various ephemera. Additionally, Galbraith records the ship's activities from November 21, 1894, to February 28, 1896.

The Jack Minges Papers include photographs, clippings, and memorabilia related to the Minges family's relationship with East Carolina, especially the dedication of Minges Coliseum.

Papers (1921-2002) musical scores, published sheet music and lyrics, biographical articles, contracts, LPs, cassettes, videotapes, reel to reel tapes, compact discs, clippings and photographs pertaining to noted North Carolinian Loonis R. McGlohon's career as a musical composer, arranger, orchestra leader and performer of jazz, popular and sacred music. Many items also relate to McGlohon's personal life such as photographs, reel to reel tapes of family events, passports, deeds, wills, death and birth certificates, military discharge papers and correspondence with well-known musicians, actors and political figures.

Isabel Sue Nelson was born on January 30, 1914 in Littleton, North Carolina. She worked in Washington, North Carolina and the Office of Warren County, North Carolina Clerk of the Court. The Collection spans 1894-2008 and includes correspondences, photographs, and newspaper articles. The strength of the collection is documents relating to Littleton, North Carolina Female College Students.

This collection contains material (1818-1976) belonging to Emily Louise Loftin (May 10, 1898-December 20, 1985) of Carteret County, North Carolina. She was an educator, librarian, and historian. Included are correspondence, land records, legal records, receipts, wills, and estate records related to the Laughinghouse and Pugh families of Pitt County, N.C., the related Bright and Loftin families of Lenoir County, N.C., and the Pipkin family of Wayne County, N.C. This material was transferred from the Emily Loftin Collection at the History Museum of Carteret County, N.C. Material related to Carteret County remains at the History Museum of Carteret County.
