Cassel, a Brethren of Christ missionary in Guatemala, 1899-1957; also an untitled history of missionary work in Guatemala by William Haymaker, written in 1947, describing his missionary career, 1887-1947. 8 vols. This collection contains a journal (November 21, 1894 – February 28, 1896) kept by Gilbert Smith Galbraith while he was serving as a U.S. Naval Cadet on board the USS Columbia. The USS Columbia was a Second Line Cruiser first commissioned on April 23, 1894, serving in the U.S. Navy until it was sold for scrap on January 23, 1922. Galbraith includes detailed technical descriptions of the ship and its components along with diagrams, blueprints, scale plans, maps, photographic prints, cyanotypes and various ephemera. Additionally, Galbraith records the ship's activities from November 21, 1894, to February 28, 1896.

Diaries, journals and letters (1897-1906, 1986-1988) of Mormon missionaries in Eastern North Carolina (1897-1906), including William A. Adams, 1900-1902, James Godfrey, 1899-1901, William M. Hansen, 1897-1898, William R. Hobbs, 1901-1903, Lewis Johnson, 1903-1905, William A. Petty, 1905-1906, and James Taylor, 1900-1902, along with Memoirs, Notes, clippings, anecdotes and other materials compiled by Joel Grant Handcock, for use in the book Strengthened by the Storm.

Collection contains material related to the Smiley family history in North Carolina collected by Joan and Ralph Smiley, photocopies of material related to the life and death of country music musician Arthur Lee "Red" Smiley, Jr. of Asheville, NC, who had toured with Don Reno and the Tennessee Cut-Ups, and clippings from the Raleigh News and Observer related to Klan violence in Eastern NC in 1967. Other material related to Immanuel Baptist Church in Greenville, to Agnes Wadlington Barrett, and to the Putnam Family have been moved to other collections.

Papers (1859-1898) of Johnston County family, including correspondence relating to the election of 1860, conditions in Petersburg and Richmond, Va., in December 1862, the Battle of Fredricksburg and the Union raid on Mount Olive, N.C., agricultural conditions in North Carolina and Indiana; a crop lien, etc.

Ten handwritten letters between William J. Blow and W. J. Marsh and handwritten transcriptions. This exchange of letters was about W. J. Marsh [or W. T. Marsh] "demanding satisfaction for offensive language used by Dr. Blow" towards him.

Papers (1975-2008, undated) of an organist and music professor at Virginia Union University in Richmond, Virginia, consisting of correspondence, doctoral thesis, seminar presentations, printed materials, handwritten research journal articles, clippings, and slides with images of medieval English Cathedrals, Abbeys, and Castles and depictions of musical instruments in them. The slides were taken during her six-month research sabbatical in Oxford, England, in 1982.

On January 14, 2009, Dale Sauter (Grant Project Director) and Chris Oakley (Grant Historian) interviewed David J. Whichard II and Stuart Savage. Both Whichard and Savage have been at the Daily Reflector for most of their lives. Whichard's grandfather and his grandfather's brother founded the newspaper in the late 1800s. Savage retired in March 2009 with fifty years at the newspaper. They have both been involved in the newspaper in many capacities, including Whichard as one time publisher, and Savage as photographer. What makes this interview so special are the reflections of both Whichard and Savage about their experiences at the newspaper and in the Greenville area. Obviously, many changes have occurred since the start of the careers and the present day. These changes include both the physical processes, as well as the whole nature of the newspaper business. During this time there have also been dramatic and sweeping social transformations in Greenville that also mirror changes that occurred on a state and national level.
