Papers (1923-1993, 2001, undated) including correspondence, writings, newspaper clippings, photographs, and pamphlets related to the life of Robert Edward Harrill (1893-1972), known as the Fort Fisher Hermit from about 1955 when he moved into an abandoned World War II bunker at Fort Fisher, North Carolina, until his death.

Collection (1799-1897, 1913) including correspondence, 1835-1897, 1913, and financial records, 1799-1894, of New Bern, NC merchant, whose store was used by Union troops, and who was appointed "Superintendent of Poor Whites" for Craven County, NC.

This collection contains records (1942-1945) pertaining to Captain Wallace L. Wright's service in the Army Air Corps during World War II. Included are his Flight Record and Log, a diary (1933-1944) he kept when he was with the 8th Squadron 3rd Attack Group and other documents such as Special Orders (1943) and Individual Flight Record documents.

Papers (ca. 1793-2002, undated) of the history of the Grady family, of Duplin County, North Carolina including correspondence, legal papers, financial documents, clippings, and photographs relating to various members of the Grady family; also including biographical information on John Grady, who fought in the American Revolution and who is known as the first North Carolinian to die in the war; Benjamin Franklin Grady who fought in the Civil War for the Confederate States of America, and who served in Congress from 1890-1894; and John K. Grady who fought in World War I.

Included are a Brake Family History; a survey (1984) and history of the Brake Family Cemetery located near the corner of Cokey Road and Calhoun Road in Rocky Mount, North Carolina; a deed and a marriage license; genealogy information; Brake, Burges and Fly family photographs; documents (1957-1980) related to the West Edgecombe Volunteer Fire Department which included volunteer firefighter Robert Earl Brake; tobacco sale bills (1926-1933, undated) from several warehouses in Rocky Mount; and a 1931-1932 Faculty and Student Directory for N.C. State.

Oral history interviews of James "Jimmy" Earl Brake and Robert "Bob" Luther Brake (1938-). Included are transcriptions and three maps which note places discussed in the interview. Interviews were recorded by Alston Cobourn, neice of interviewees.

This collection contains twenty-four pages of genealogical notes related to Beaufort County, N.C., families including Bonner, Snoad, Smallwood, and Latham written by Lucretia Hughes of Washington, N.C.; and a scrapbook of "About Town" columns (1946-1947) written by Penelope Bogart (Rodman) as a teenager for the Washington Daily News published in Washington, N.C. Also included are two typescripts of interviews done in 1938 with a mill worker at Glen Raven Cotton Mill in Burlington, N.C., and with a woman who ran a lodging house in Raleigh, N.C.; and an undated typescript titled "Description of Mill Village" about life on Factory Hill where many of the Asheville Cotton Mill workers lived. The interview with the woman in Raleigh also includes her experiences during the Civil War in Wake County, N.C. In addition, there is an errata of corrections to Van Camp's Images of America: Washington, North Carolina and a Bible containing family history information.

Papers (1911-1968, undated) include correspondence, writings, legal and financial papers, news clippings, a photograph and miscellaneous documents related to the career of Harry V. Bernard, Sr., who was an American businessman in China beginning in 1911. The documents also reflect his work with flood relief in the Shanghai District of China in the 1930s and his internment by the Japanese in a prison camp near Shanghai during World War II.

Collection (1940-1946, undated) relating to the Hagerty Company, Cohasset, MA, including its construction of PT (Patrol Torpedo) boats and RADAR tripods, model yachts, sailboats, skiffs, dinghies, and outboards, including correspondence, photographic prints, blueprints and printed materials.

Papers of Eve Shelnutt (1984) documenting the life and literary career of the Spartanburg, South Carolina-born American poet, short story writer who taught creative writing at various universities, including the College of the Holy Cross; consisting of unbound carbon typescripts of her volume of poetry Air and Salt (1984) and of her short story Undersong (1984).
