Papers of Nancy [Anna Westcott] Hale (1971) documenting the life and literary career of the noted Boston, Massachusetts-born journalist, novelist, playwright, and artist; consisting of an unbound, oversized, galley proof of her novel Secrets (1971).

Collection (1778-1974) of papers pertaining to the Jones Family of Gum Neck, Tyrrell County, North Carolina, including deeds and other land records, business and estate records in Tyrrell County and Pasquotank County, relating primarily to Bartlett Jones, C. B. Jones, Carney Jones, W. S. Jones, T. David Jones, Timothy Jones, Sr.; and including clippings, correspondence, photographic prints, and printed materials, relating to Bartlett Braxton Jones, of Elizabeth City, NC, who served as an attorney in the Justice Department, Washington, DC, a National officer of the Society of the Cincinnati, and his wife Helen Bryan Chamberlain Jones, of Kinston, NC, who were both active in Democratic Party politics and social activities.

The largest portion (1911-1947) of this collection (1837-1993) contains correspondence, photographs, publications and ephemera related to the extensive charitable interests of Mary Estelle Crawford Fry, her husband James Woods Fry and son Gilbert Crawford Fry, all of Philadelphia, Pennsylvania. The charities include the Bethel Mission operating out of Hong Kong at the time of this correspondence (1938) due to war in China, the San Miao Orphanage in Saratsi (Suiyuan Province) of Northern China [later became part of Nei (Inner) Mongolia], the China International Famine Relief Commission, missions dealing with French and Belgian orphans of WWI, and the International Students' House conducted by the Christian Assoc. of the University of Pennsylvania. Earlier correspondence (1837-1869), unrelated to the above mentioned charities, is mainly written between Mrs. Mary M. Crawford of Boston, MA, Mrs. Addie A. Stien of Norristown, PA, and Sower family members in Boston and Norristown. Also included are family photographs and family history information related to the Chitty, Stroup (Strup, Strupe, Strub), and Ruede families of Forsyth Co., NC.

Papers of Harry Crews (1973-1987, undated) documenting the life and literary career of the noted Alma, Georgia-born American novelist, playwright, short story writer, essayist & educator at the University of Florida, where he taught creative writing; including proofs of published materials, photographic prints, loose manuscript items transferred from the Stuart Wright Book Collection, printed materials & oversized materials.

Papers of Shirley Bowers Anders (1983-1984) documenting the life and literary career of the Winston-Salem, North Carolina-born American poet and writer in residence at the University of Wisconsin – Fox Valley, 1988-1989; also at Lawrence University, Appleton, Wisconsin, 1989-1994; consisting of typescripts and page proofs of her volume of poetry published by Palaemon Press and entitled Shirley Anders (Palaemon Poets Number One, 1983-1984) and transmittal notes relating to possible publication.

Papers of Mark Smith (1967-1971) documenting the life and literary career of the noted Michigan-born American novelist and professor of English at the University of New Hampshire; consisting of a bound, paperback, proof of his novel The Middleman (1967); also an oversized periodical entitled Invisible City (1971).

Papers of Walter Sullivan (1987-1989) documenting the life and career of the Nashville, Tennessee-born American novelist, literary critic, and English professor at Vanderbilt University; consisting of loose manuscript items transferred from the Stuart Wright Book Collection volume entitled A Requiem for the Renascence: The State of Fiction in the Modern South, by Walter Sullivan (1976); including Sullivan's letters to Stuart Wright regarding his book collection, 1987-1989.

Records (1927-2012) including photographic slides & compact discs illustrating City of Greenville Police Department public relations, detective squad, and traffic control operations, including inspections, personnel, court and trail procedures, training programs, including first aid training, bomb disposal, and riot training; also including a letter from Stuart Savage, Senior Writer, The Daily Reflector; to Sergeant Joe Friday & 2 compact discs containing reproductions of black and white and color slides of police operations.

This collection contains material (1818-1976) belonging to Emily Louise Loftin (May 10, 1898-December 20, 1985) of Carteret County, North Carolina. She was an educator, librarian, and historian. Included are correspondence, land records, legal records, receipts, wills, and estate records related to the Laughinghouse and Pugh families of Pitt County, N.C., the related Bright and Loftin families of Lenoir County, N.C., and the Pipkin family of Wayne County, N.C. This material was transferred from the Emily Loftin Collection at the History Museum of Carteret County, N.C. Material related to Carteret County remains at the History Museum of Carteret County.
