The largest portion (1911-1947) of this collection (1837-1993) contains correspondence, photographs, publications and ephemera related to the extensive charitable interests of Mary Estelle Crawford Fry, her husband James Woods Fry and son Gilbert Crawford Fry, all of Philadelphia, Pennsylvania. The charities include the Bethel Mission operating out of Hong Kong at the time of this correspondence (1938) due to war in China, the San Miao Orphanage in Saratsi (Suiyuan Province) of Northern China [later became part of Nei (Inner) Mongolia], the China International Famine Relief Commission, missions dealing with French and Belgian orphans of WWI, and the International Students' House conducted by the Christian Assoc. of the University of Pennsylvania. Earlier correspondence (1837-1869), unrelated to the above mentioned charities, is mainly written between Mrs. Mary M. Crawford of Boston, MA, Mrs. Addie A. Stien of Norristown, PA, and Sower family members in Boston and Norristown. Also included are family photographs and family history information related to the Chitty, Stroup (Strup, Strupe, Strub), and Ruede families of Forsyth Co., NC.

Papers (1905-1999, undated) consisting of correspondence, minutes, reports, rosters, speeches, pamphlets, publications, yearbook, programs, clippings, photographs, farm ledgers, notebooks, bulletins, brochures, date book, deposition, will, contracts, inventory and poetry related to teacher Blanche Hardee Rives (1887-1973)and her family in Enfield, Halifax County, North Carolina. Also documented are her involvement in the Methodist Protestant (United Methodist Church after 1939),the Hardrawee Home Demonstration Club, the Halifax Co. Home Demonstration Club, Order of the Eastern Star, Halifax County Historical Association, Northeastern North Carolina Branch of the English-Speaking Union, Frank M. Parker Chapter of the United Daughters of the Confederacy, and Littleton College Memorial Association.

George Vernon Holloman was born in Rich Square, North Carolina on September 17, 1902. This collection deals with the last years of his career in the U.S. Army Air Corps in 1945-1946. He was a colonel and very involved in developing advanced technologies related to automatic landing and flying systems in the Air Technical Service Command (ATSC) at Wright Field. While on duty with the 20th Air Force in Guam as deputy chief of staff, he died in a plane crash over Formosa. Included are clippings, photographs and a postcard.
