Papers (1941-1945) of U.S. Naval officer, USNA Class of 1941, including an autobiographical account, a letter describing experiences aboard the USS West Virginia during the Japanese attack on Pearl Harbor, a letter explaining terms used in letters to avoid censorship, several speeches to civic organizations on his experiences during World War II and his relationsip with Admiral Hyman George Rickover.

This collection includes the papers of retired History Professor from Darton College (now part of Albany State University in Georgia) and author Dr. Royce G. Shingleton. These papers document his literary career in the fields of Naval History and mid-nineteenth century American South. His books include High Seas Confederate (about John Newland Maffitt), John Taylor Wood: Sea Ghost of the Confederacy, and Richard Peters: Champion of the New South; he also contributed to William N. Still's book The Confederate Navy. A native of Stantonsburg, North Carolina, Shingleton has done genealogical work relative to the Shingleton family that is also found in this collection.

Collection (1852-2014) includes correspondence, newspaper clippings, printed materials, and other items compiled by retired East Carolina University English professor emeritus Dr. Ralph Hardee Rives (1930-2016) relating primarily to the Hardee - Rives and related families of North Carolina and the United Kingdom, the history of Eastern North Carolina (especially Halifax County and the town of Enfield), the United Methodist Church in Eastern North Carolina, state and local and national politics, and his charitable and philanthropic interests. The earliest original documents cover the period from 1852 through the Civil War and World War I.

Papers of Aaron Copland (1943-2005 [Bulk: 1971-1997]) documenting the life and musical career of the iconic Brooklyn, New York-born American composer, consisting of correspondence between Stuart Wright and Copland and others relating to Copland, 1977-1997; also loose manuscript items transferred from the Stuart Wright Book Collection relating to Aaron Copland; photographic prints; original art; brochures, pamphlets and periodicals relating to Aaron Copland; in English, French & Spanish language.

This collection (1962-1998) includes scrapbooks documenting activities (1986-1989) of the Junior Confederacy Chapter No. 775 (Wilson) of the Children of the Confederacy, activities (1962-1963, 1970-1971, 1988-1991) of the John W. Dunham Chapter No. 374 (Wilson) of the United Daughters of the Confederacy, and activities (1989-1991) of the Junior Confederacy Chapter No. 66 (Wilson) of the Children of the Confederacy. Also included are some loose publications (1962-1998) such as yearbooks, convention programs, and minutes.

The Nell Wise Wechter Papers contains copies of the author's books, Taffy of Torpedo Junction (1957), Betsy Dowdy's Ride (1960), Swamp Girl (1971), and The Mighty Midgetts of Chicamacomico (1974). Also included are the typed and written drafts, typed manuscripts with revisions, original manuscripts, and galley proofs for her books. There is also correspondence from the Library of Congress, British Embassy, and Mariners Museum regarding Wechter's requests for information to assist her in writing her novels.

This candid and detailed World War I diary (April 25, 1918-March 12, 1919) was kept by Carl Whittlesey of Barton County, MO, during his service with the 313 Engineers 88th Division. He kept detailed entries regarding his training at Camp Dodge in Johnston, Iowa, his participation in the Alsace Campaign in France, and his involvement in developing the war ravaged areas in Europe.

Papers (1939-1949) of a U. S. Marine Corps aviator in the 4th Marine Aircraft Wing, and later rose to Lt. General in command of the Pacific Fleet Marine Force, 1962, consisting of course notes, handouts, maps, overlays, manuals, logistical data, exercises, military events.

The Van de Sande Family Papers include paper soldiers, horses, and weapons Thilleman van de Sande made circa 1775 in the netherlands; two diplomas for Thilleman; document about Thilleman becoming a doctor written by A. Ypey; and a diploma for Daniel van de Sande.

Reminiscences (1999) of Capt. Walter P. Murphy, Jr. (US Navy ret.) a member of the U.S. Naval Academy Class of 1941, of his service (1941-1944) as a junior naval officer during World War II, including among other topics the incident of the submarine USS Sailfish sinking the Japanese carrier Chuyo.
