Ledger (1880-1897) of Kinston, N.C., physician, Dr. Henry Otis Hyatt, containing accounts of patients, medical cures for illnesses, and the constitution, by-laws, and minutes of the Kinston Commercial and Trade Association. A native of Tarboro, N.C., he moved his practice to Kinston, N.C., in 1872 and established Dr. Hyatt's Sanatorium for the Diseases of the Eye and General Surgery in 1891. Dr. Hyatt was one of the best known and skilled physicians in the state, and had one of the first "free clinics" in this country. Dr. Hyatt was also instrumental in the development of the Kinston Commercial and Trade Association, later known as "The Merchants Association."

Papers (ca. 1942-1945) pertaining primarily to the 7th amphibious Force, Beach Party #5, in the Central Pacific during World War II, including personnel and operations file, terrain study handbooks, histories of the 7th amphibious Force, clippings, photographs, certificates and miscellany.

A map entitled "To David Stone and Peter Brown, Esq. this first actual survey of the state of North Carolina taken by the subscribers is respectfully dedicated by their humble servants Jona. Price & John Strother," was drawn in 1808 and engraved by W. Harrison of Philadelphia, PA.

Papers (1845-1859, 1876, undated) including shipping records, bills of lading, promissory notes, receipts, indentures and correspondence.

Thomas Harriot was born around 1560 in Oxfordshire, England. He was a cartographer, historian and surveyor for Sir Walter Raleigh's second expedition to Virgina in 1585. The collection is from 2004 and includes a copy of a portrait of Thomas Harriot.

Letterbook (1861-1864) consisting of handwritten transcripts of letters.

Papers (1861-1865, undated) of Civil War soldier in the 12th Ohio Independent Battery, Company D of the 25th Ohio Regiment. Papers consist of Diary containing descriptions of Civil War camp life and of the Battle of Cheat Mountain, West Virginia (9/12/1861) which was Robert E. Lee's first campaign.

Correspondence (1861-1864) of Edgecombe County, N.C., soldier in Company F of the 30th Regiment of North Carolina Troops stationed in various locations in Virginia. All of his letters are addressed to his future wife, Miss Elizabeth S. Ward of Rocky Mount Depot, N.C. Two other letters are from North Carolina soldiers related to Miss Ward.

Papers of Heather McHugh (1981) documenting the life and literary career the noted San Diego, California-born, Canadian-American poet, translator, educator, who became Writer-in-Residence, 1984-2011, and, since 2011, Pollock Professor of Creative Writing at the University of Washington, Seattle; consisting of the corrected galley proofs for her book of poems, entitled A World of Difference: Poems (1981); filed oversized.

Papers of Jonathan Bumas (1986) documenting the life and career of the Forest Hills, New York-born American book illustrator and publisher of children's books, consisting of oversized original art works with captions for Phonethics: Twenty-Two Limericks for the Telephone (1986) by John Ciardi; drawings by Jonathan Bumas, published by Palaemon Press, Limited.

This collection consists of four minute books of the Old Sparta Primitive Baptist Church, Edgecombe County, North Carolina, for the period of 1899 through 1998.
