This collection contains materials (1987-2002) related to the National Maritime Alliance from its beginning as a proposal in 1987 and its formal founding in 1988. Included are correspondence, by-laws, minutes, grant applications, trust proposal, incorporation documents, conference materials, and reports. The Alliance represents a diverse group of museums, historic preservation groups, businesses and individuals all devoted to preserving our maritime heritage. Dr. Runyan has been on the Board of Directors for a number of years.

Papers (1905-1999, undated) consisting of correspondence, minutes, reports, rosters, speeches, pamphlets, publications, yearbook, programs, clippings, photographs, farm ledgers, notebooks, bulletins, brochures, date book, deposition, will, contracts, inventory and poetry related to teacher Blanche Hardee Rives (1887-1973)and her family in Enfield, Halifax County, North Carolina. Also documented are her involvement in the Methodist Protestant (United Methodist Church after 1939),the Hardrawee Home Demonstration Club, the Halifax Co. Home Demonstration Club, Order of the Eastern Star, Halifax County Historical Association, Northeastern North Carolina Branch of the English-Speaking Union, Frank M. Parker Chapter of the United Daughters of the Confederacy, and Littleton College Memorial Association.

Contained in the collection are notebooks, pamphlets, photographs and negatives from Boice's time at the University of Pennsylvania and his career afterwards.

The Watson and Boomer families of Beaufort and Hyde Counties, North Carolina, were connected through marriage. Included are original deeds from the early and mid-1800s; birth, death, and marriage dates and genealogy notes; baby book-type notes about the lives of 2 children (1885-1888) of William I. Watson (his mother was a Boomer) and wife "Ms. Charlie" Sidney Archbell Watson; World War I letters (1917-1918) written by William E. Watson to relatives in Aurora (Beaufort County), North Carolina, from Camp Sevier and Fort Jackson in South Carolina; and photographs (late 1800s-early 1900s).

The College of Business Administrative Records include annual reports, meeting minutes, self-studies, and publications by the college.

Each UNC campus has a local board of trustees that holds extensive powers over academic and other operations of its campus on delegation from the Board of Governors. This collection contains material documenting the life of James Long Newsom, Sr., (1914-2007) of Durham, North Carolina. A graduate of Duke University and Duke University Law School and attended Syracuse University Law School, he began practicing law in Durham in 1938. Correspondence (1931-1940) documents his post-high school education and courtship of his future wife Frances Martin whom he met at Syracuse. As a member of the United States Naval Reserve, he fought in the South Pacific for the years 1942-1945 during World War II and this experience is covered with extensive correspondence, photographs, souvenirs, programs and military newspapers. After the war, he returned to his law practice and continued his Naval Reserve career. Also included are diplomas, certificates, family-related photographs (back to the 1910s), clippings, and genealogy.

This collection contains publications, SACS documents including self-studies, departmental faculty meeting minutes, annual reports, student work, and policy documents from the Department of English.

The collection includes correspondence, printed materials, photographs, grade reports, teaching certificates and testimonials, legal documents and newspaper clippings which document the life (1891-1975) of Lenoir County, North Carolina, school teacher Julia Catherine McDaniel including her education at Hollins Institute in Virginia and her teaching career (1912-1960) in Burlington, Bethel, and Lenoir County, N.C., schools. The collection also touches on the lives of her friends, classmates, colleagues, and students and includes materials concerning the McDaniel, Harvey, Linton and related families of Kinston and Eastern North Carolina.
