This collection contains financial records (including also bills of sale for enslaved persons) and deeds (1743-1872), and correspondence (1821-1891) related especially to Elias Fort and Dr. Matthew C. Whitaker of Halifax County, N.C. The correspondence also concerns other members of the Whitaker family and related families.

Papers of Heather McHugh (1981) documenting the life and literary career the noted San Diego, California-born, Canadian-American poet, translator, educator, who became Writer-in-Residence, 1984-2011, and, since 2011, Pollock Professor of Creative Writing at the University of Washington, Seattle; consisting of the corrected galley proofs for her book of poems, entitled A World of Difference: Poems (1981); filed oversized.

The collection includes correspondence, minutes, programs, lists, dues information, journal reprints and articles, newsletters, receipts, clippings, reports, and photographs. The Louis Orr Collection contains a set of forty-eight prints of the original fifty-one print set (and one replacement print) made from etchings of North Carolina historical landmarks and architectural sites. The etchings were created from 1939 to 1952 by artist Louis Orr, a world-renown etcher, at the behest of North Carolina resident Robert Lee Humber who wanted to preserve North Carolina's heritage by providing the artwork to schools, colleges, public libraries and institutions throughout the state.

This collection includes correspondence, reports, clippings, publications, and information concerning Affirmative Action Programs, policies including those related to sexual harassment and discrimination, and records of Employee Resource Groups.

This collection contains a single photograph album that highlights the Sandhills region in North Carolina from 1914 to 1921.

Papers of Hilary Masters (1984-1987) documenting the life and literary career of the noted Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania-born American novelist, short-story writer, memoirist, and educator at Carnegie-Mellon University, consisting of manuscripts and proofs of his novels and short story collections entitled (1986-1987), Buster's Head (1985), and Hammertown Tales (1986); also loose items transferred from his works in the Stuart Wright Book Collection (1985-1987); and oversized materials related to Hammertown Tales (1984, 1986).
