Papers and artifacts, primarily notebooks, account books, journals, instruments, and devices of three generations of Alfred F. Hammond's, all physicians in eastern North Carolina.

John L. Porter's notebook (Pensacola, Fla., 1860), blueprint, photocopies of blueprints, newspaper clippings and photographic print, relating to U.S. Navy ship construction and C.S. ship construction, including drawings of CSS Virginia (USS Merrimac) and other ships; Porter family genealogy, ca. 1860-1936.

Papers (1766-1898, undated) of the Clark and Spragins families of Halifax County, Virginia, including correspondence, financial records, legal papers, political reference, and miscellaneous.

This collection consists of the records of the Institute of Outdoor Theatre which was founded in 1963 and includes material related to over 600 outdoor theatres, some of which began operation in the 1920s. Included are play scripts, correspondence, clippings, publicity material, video and audio recordings, feasibility studies, publications, reel-to-reel tapes, 35 mm slides, blueprints, and audition-related materials. This collection is being processed with the support of a National Historical Publications and Records Commission grant.

This collection contains eight documents (1864-1872) relating to the Lowrie (Lowry) Gang of outlaws based in Robeson County, North Carolina. Included are a Grand Jury indictment (1864) of Lowrie, Lowrie, and a third unnamed black man for theft, two summons in Robeson County (1868) and Columbus County (1869) to bring Henry B. Lowery to court for trial for murder, and an affidavit and four Grand Jury payment receipts (1872) related to an indictment of Thomas Brady ("Lowerie Outlaws" sympathizer) for murder.

Photograph Album and other files (ca. 1950 - 2004) relating to historic houses in Chowan, Perquimans, Bertie, Gates, and Washington counties in the Albemarle region of North Carolina, including photographic prints, postcard, floor plan sketches, maps, and correspondence.

The Robin Brabham Collection (1862-1866, 1976, undated) consists of materials from several Civil War soldiers adn civilians, including documents relating to Thomas Midgett of Croatan, North Carolina, containing an oath, a parole and safe conduct documents issued by a Union Army officer, in 1862-1864; also documents, 1863-1866, related to several Union Army soldiers, including records of Major N. H. Foster of 1st Battalion, 12th U.S. Colored Heavy Artillery; Lt. Col. H. A. Oakman of 30th Regiment U.S. Colored Troops and; also certificates of discharge by reason of death for members of Co. A., 2nd Regiment Massachusetts Volunteer Artillery.

Collection (1719-1910) including newspaper, periodicals, sheet music, poems, photocopies of legal records, letters, agriculture, Livestock Journal, magazine etc.

This collection contains material (1818-1976) belonging to Emily Louise Loftin (May 10, 1898-December 20, 1985) of Carteret County, North Carolina. She was an educator, librarian, and historian. Included are correspondence, land records, legal records, receipts, wills, and estate records related to the Laughinghouse and Pugh families of Pitt County, N.C., the related Bright and Loftin families of Lenoir County, N.C., and the Pipkin family of Wayne County, N.C. This material was transferred from the Emily Loftin Collection at the History Museum of Carteret County, N.C. Material related to Carteret County remains at the History Museum of Carteret County.

Records (1907-1909, 1912,1920-1921,1938) of Wilson, NC Tobacco warehouse firm, including ledgers, correspondence and financial reports.

Papers of James Wright (1981-1990), documenting the life and literary career the noted Martins Ferry, Ohio-born American poet of the postmodern era; consisting of a copy of the James Wright Memorial Issue of Envoy Magazine (Spring-Summer 1981), edited by Henri Cole, published by the Academy of American Poets; also including loose manuscript items transferred from a book in the Stuart Wright Book Collection, entitled Saint Judas, (1939), by James Wright consisting of correspondence between Anne [Mrs. James A.] Wright and Stuart Wright concerning possible publication of Wright's work entitled Mosaic of a Journey.
